Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, The Community Store on Ocracoke is truly an island tradition. The current building was constructed in the 1950’s on the site of the old Amasa Fulcher Store. Through the years if you lived on Ocracoke and needed provisions, this was THE place to go.

The Community Store has seen its share of shopkeepers over the past half century. It has taken the hard work and determination of many an island resident to keep the store up and running. The latest, in this long line of hard working folks, is a young island family who wants people to feel as if they’ve stepped back in time as they stop in to get the provisions they need.

The first thing you’ll notice as you get out of your car is the bulletin board on the side of the building. This is where you will find community announcements or store specials posted; just like it was in the old days. Feel free to sit a spell on the porch and enjoy the view of the harbor from one of our porch rockers. Inside the building, you will find basic groceries and supplies, a selection of organic and natural foods, authentic Mexican groceries and fresh produce. In colder months, feel free to warm yourself beside our old pot bellied stove. Indulge your sweet tooth at our candy counter or just drop in for a snack or fresh cup of coffee for your ferry ride…

We offer grocery delivery, too! If you’re planning a trip to Ocracoke and don’t have room to stuff one more thing in your car, let us take care of your provisions. With a little bit of advance notice, we can have your groceries waiting in your motel room or at your rental cottage when you arrive.
